International Justice Mission (IJM)
The International Justice Mission (IJM) was launched in 1997,
after a two year survey of overseas evangelical Christian ministries.
IJM is a Christ-centered, professional, bridge building non-governmental
organization, founded by Gary Haugan, a former senior trial
attorney with the US Justice Department and 1994 UN Genocide
investigator in Rwanda . The organization helps people suffering
injustice and oppression who cannot rely on local authorities
for relief. IJM's methods include documentation, intervention,
emergency relief, perpetrator accountability, structural prevention,
victim care and education. They are actively involved in women's
anti-trafficking operations. IJM can serve an important human
rights role helping to identify ways in which religions and
traditions (especially faith-based evangelical Christian religions)
may discriminate against women based on the Juridical and Factual
aspects of the U.N. Human Rights Study.
