KASHMIR WOMEN'S MOVEMENT LEADER AT PEACEFUL
PROTEST FOR MISSING PERSONS, &
FOR CONTINUED HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS BY POLICE
Islamabad, August 29,2014 -
The Secretary General of the Kashmir Women's Movement, Shamim Shawl,
has condemned the arrest of woman leader Zamarud Habib, by Indian
police in Srinagar.
Ms. Shawl stated to the press
that the arrest action of Indian
police was against democratic norms. Right to freedom of expression and right
to peaceful protests are fundamental human rights.
Zamarud Habib was arrested on
Wednesday when she was leading a peaceful protest in Srinagar to highlight the
search for the many missing in the protracted Kashmir conflict, and to
denounce human rights violations being
committed by Indian troops and police in occupied Kashmir.
