Takhar is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan,
located in the northeast of the country next to Tajikistan.
Sadia was 17 years old when she was married off to
this man, who is almost three times her age. She is now 20 years old and has
suffered numerous violent attacks by her husband throughout their three years
of marriage.
It is said that Sadia's husband has attempted to
murder her several times since their time together. The last attempt sent her
to the hospital critically injured just five days before Eid ul-Fitr.
She described the incident and said that her husband
had tied her hands and legs so she could not move and atrociously mutilated her
genitals.
It is said that Sadia's husband appeared at a court in
Takhar explaining to the judge that his wife wanted to kill him, accusing her
of mixing glass into his food. Takhar provincial public health department rejected
the allegations as they said nothing was found in the medical exams they
conducted.
Takhar's attorney office and health department have
confirmed the horrific attack. The victim, Sadia, is under medical treatment at
a safe house located at Taloqan center in Takhar.
Sadia's husband is in custody at Taloqan jail. The
attorney general office in Takhar will refer the case to Takhar court within
two days.
