International Women's Day for Peace & Disarmament - May 24

Women have often been at the forefront of peacebuilding and disarmament initiatives. On May 24 - International Women's Day for Peace and Disarmament, the Women Peacemakers Program (WPP) celebrates these historic efforts and accomplishments, calling for the incorporation of women’s voices and leadership in peace processes, and highlighting the need to invest in peace and disarmament.

There is no peace without gender equality, and there is no gender equality without women’s leadership!

Every year, WPP celebrates the International Women’s Day for Peace and Disarmament, with an international publication (May 24 Pack) and a public event. The celebration of this day began in Europe during the 1980s, when hundreds of thousands of women organized against nuclear weapons and the arms race.

This year, WPP aims to celebrate May 24 widely, and we invite you to join us by organizing your own activity and joining our social media campaign. Think about a panel discussion, a creative competition, a movie screening, an opinion article in your local newspaper – just a few examples of how this important day can be highlighted!

Please contact WPP (info@womenpeacemakersprogram.org) to announce your event, or in case you need more information.
