MAMA - VITAL HEALTH INFO FOR
EXPECTANT & NEW MOTHERS VIA MOBILE PHONES
MAMA
Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action
Our mission is to engage an innovative global community to deliver vital health information to new and expectant mothers through mobile phones. Our guiding principles are scale, sustainability, and impact.
More than 800 women die of childbirth or
pregnancy-related complications every day. 3.1 million newborn deaths occur
every year. There are now at least 1 billion women in low- and middle-income
countries who own mobile phones. To address this stark reality, on Mother’s Day
2011, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton launched MAMA, an
innovative public-private partnership between the United States
Agency for International Development (USAID), Johnson &
Johnson, the mHealth Alliance, the United
Nations Foundation and BabyCenter.
The MAMA partnership delivers vital health messages to
new and expectant mothers in developing countries via their mobile phones. MAMA
