Training of Trainers Programme

International Human Rights Instruments and Mechanisms

The Training of Trainers (ToT) programme is part of Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law’s (RWI) comprehensive regional programme in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) that aims to build the institutional capacity of organisations working to promote and protect human rights.

The objective of the programme is to establish a team of qualified master trainers in the human rights field, who can support the efforts of national and regional organisations in promoting and protecting human rights in the region. Organisations nominating their staff to participate in the ToT programme will also benefit from their staff’s participation. In specific, the participants will strengthen their organisations by transferring their knowledge to their organisations through internal training courses. Furthermore, the participants will be in a good position to assist their organisations in developing and implementing training courses for external target groups.

The programme is designed to be implemented over a period of four years, provided that funds are secured. The activities for 2008 are funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). The year 2008 is designated to identify the participants, as well as organising a three day planning workshop with the selected candidates to design the programme for the forthcoming years in a participatory process that would respond to the actual needs and priorities in the region. The training is planned to be implemented during 2009 – 2011.

Eligible countries invited to participate in the ToT programme are:

Algeria
Egypt
Iraq
Jordan
Lebanon
Morocco
The occupied Palestinian territories
Tunisia
Syria
Yemen

Please note that only candidates from these countries may be selected to participate in the training.

The ToT programme will be conducted in English. It is expected that candidates provide a proof of language proficiency (TOFEL score of 580 or IELTS score of 6.5.)
