AFGHANISTAN:
Over the past several decades, Afghanistan has been plagued with perpetual
civil and international conflict, which has caused great suffering for much of
its population. One consequence of this relentless turmoil—in addition to the
lives lost, injuries endured and villages destroyed—has been the resurgence in
Afghan society of beliefs and practices that marginalize and oppress women.
